One of the easiest ways to reduce your gas bill is to obtain a gas rebate credit card. This type of credit card is unique in that it provides you a rebate each time you pump gasoline into your car. Gas rebate credit cards resemble standard variable rate credit cards. These types of credit cards are issued by some of the major credit card companies, gasoline companies and specific gas stations. Some of these cards also come with great perks like cash back rewards and special rebate offers.
The principle behind a credit card that offers rebates is that the cardholder receives a certain percentage of the amount of his/her purchases back in the form of cash. You can use these cards for purchases of many items like, food, clothing, restaurant expenses and gasoline for your car. Even though the rebate can be a small percentage, if you use the card instead of cash for items that you need to buy anyway, at the end of the year the savings in dollars can be significant.
The percentage that a credit cardholder may receive as a rebate varies from 1% to 6%. Often the credit card companies offer the highest rebate percentages during the introductory phase and then drop the percentage as the promotional period ends. Most major gasoline companies offer their own in-house gas credit card. However, you only get savings on gas when you use their card at their stations and the card cannot be used for general purpose spending at other establishments.
There has been a recent trend of some major credit card companies to offer gas rebate credit cards that can be used for all manner of spending. These gas credit cards can offer a specified rebate rate for gasoline purchases in the 3% range and then offer a 1% to 2% rebate for all other general-purpose purchases. The rebates are usually supplied to the cardholder at the closing of the billing period and they can take the form of a cardholder credit or even in the shape of a gift card.
Gas rebate credit cards are numerous and can be found online by making a simple Google search. Once you have a number of cards to choose from, carefully examine the terms and decide which one will fit your situation the best. Also, remember that having a good credit score will make getting any type of credit card you are interested in much easier.
